Planning & property law - Advertisement control
Advertising control is one of the oldest forms of planning in the United Kingdom. Controls were originally introduced in 1908. Since then, there has always been some form of control on outdoor advertising.
The current regime is basically concerned with non-aerial, static advertising. The regime is a sophisticated one and the rights involved may often be valuable. Aerial advertising is the subject of a separate regime of control. Similarly, peripatetic advertising is subject to a crude form of control under 19th century legislation.
Members of Chambers regularly appear in advertising matters, both at inquiries and in the courts.
