Environmental law - Public health
The rubric "public health" covers a wide range of statutory provisions relating to dangerous substances, genetically-modified organisms, pests, disease control and prevention, hygiene and sanitation, fouling, and so forth. These provisions give rise to both criminal sanctions for non-compliance as well as detailed regulatory regimes.
Members of Chambers frequently act in public health prosecutions, both for local authorities (who are generally charged with instituting them) and in defending those charged with offences. As well, we frequently advise in relation to the various regulatory regimes that govern this important facet of local government law.
